The Food Solidarities International Network
The Food Solidarity International Network was launched in late 2025 under the impulse of the UNESCO Chair in World Food Systems. It also draws on a partnership with the Food Equity Center (Institute of Development Studies, Brighton).
The network aims to better understand the diversity of forms of food solidarity around the world, as well as the social issues they raise. It seeks to broaden and break down perspectives on food solidarity by fostering exchanges across disciplines, approaches, and research fields.
How does food solidarity take shape in different contexts? Which actors drive it, and through what dynamics? To what extent do they contribute to improved access to food, social justice, or the transformation of food systems? How can we support informal forms of food solidarity without compromising the agency of the individuals and groups that implement them? What lessons can be learned from experiences in other countries? How can public policies promote or support these forms of solidarity?
The network thus aims to deepen our collective understanding of these issues, raise awareness, and mobilize support around the challenges of creating fair, sustainable, and inclusive food systems.
Our objectives:
- Strengthen international exchanges and collaborations among scientific communities working on food solidarity.
- Build lasting bridges between the Chair, its partners, and network members—particularly in the Global South—around common issues related to food justice.
- Promote the dissemination of research to a broad audience and contribute to the training of students, professionals, elected officials, and others on these issues
- Draw inspiration from initiatives developed in various countries to identify useful lessons for public policy and on-the-ground actors, and to help identify concrete courses of action.
